I love the story of the legs contest – he should have won! He was such a sweet man.

Hi Mary Elyn, I very much enjoyed this entry about your Dad and Mom at the fair; I bet your Mom got a real kick out of it that day, too. It made me recall an incident in the 1970’s when my Dad (a policeman) went downtown to the Safety Building to pick up his check…He was wearing a long dark brown wig with beads, a headband, and a white T shirt…I can’t help myself; I’m laughing really hard as I write this…even BEFORE I found his picture…. If you remember my Dad….he was almost 6’5″ and about 220 lbs., and always had a crew cut as long as I can remember. Anyway, he looked absolutely ridiculous, and somehow Bobby and I convinced him to go out like that. My Mom just rolled her eyes…Not surprisingly, he caused quite a commotion at work, but he said the reactions of strangers in the elevator were even more fun because they didn’t know him and thought he was an old hippie! I didn’t have any trouble finding this photo, either, because I had filed it under “Blackmail Pix”!!!! Thanks for helping me recall this 50+ year old memory! Pat (photo attached)
